Nine injured in four accidents over two days in Monroe County - La Crosse Tribune

The sheriff’s department responded to three accidents in approximately seven hours during the afternoon and evening of Aug. Three people were injured in the first accident that was reported just after noon on Aug. Robert Hammer, 66, was driving a 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser westbound when he began to slow to make a turn onto I-90 and was rear-ended by a 1998 Buick LaSabre operated by 73-year-old Shirley Galstad. Galstad, Hammer and Hammer’s passenger, 67-year-old Cheryl Hammer, all sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries. Kowalske, of Hartland, struck his head on the pavement and was transported to Tomah Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Jill Kowalske, 54, also of Hartland, had minor injuries but was not transported from the scene for treatment, according to the sheriff’s department. Authorities responded to the third crash just over five hours later on Highway 21 near Highway BB in the town of Lafayette. Hareld Schmidt, 45, was westbound in a 2000 Ford Excursion when he experienced a medical emergency, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and enter trees along the highway. Schmidt and his passengers, 12-year-old Timothy Schmidt and 25-year-old Bobbi Schmidt, all received minor injuries from their seat belt restraints. Source: lacrossetribune.com
