WASHINGTON — The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened an investigation into 517,945 2003-'05 Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis sedans for loss of headlights. NHTSA said there are 3,609 complaints regarding loss of headlights in these vehicles. Some of the complaints were reported by consumers to NHTSA, while Ford provided data indicating it has received 3,092 complaints of failed headlights. One driver was injured when the car struck an unseen object in the road, "jerking the steering wheel from their hands and injuring their shoulder," NHTSA said. Ford spokeswoman Kelli Felker told Edmunds the automaker will cooperate with NHTSA on the investigation. Portland man accused of attempted murder in Gresham hit-and-run collision - OregonLive.com

Dwaine Lewis Coppernoll Jr. was arraigned on a three-count indictment Friday morning that charges him with attempted murder, first-degree assault and failure to perform the duties of a driver to an injured person. Gresham police said Coppernoll was driving a white Ford Crown Victoria that hit Mario Deshaun Polk, 39, at about 6 a. m. on June 15 in Gresham's Rockwood neighborhood. Polk had been trying to cross Southeast 162nd Avenue, north of Southeast Stark Street, police said. Portland police found the Crown Victoria parked near the 2600 block of Southeast 127th Avenue later that morning, Gresham police said. Coppernoll also faces a probation violation stemming from a theft conviction in 2014, according to court records. He has six prior felony convictions on charges of burglary, possession of methamphetamine and unlawful transport of firearms stemming from 2003. He told court officials that the man injured in the hit-and-run was a friend. Coppernoll is being held at Multnomah County's Inverness Jail on $520,000 bail. Source: www.oregonlive.com
