Rusty Wallace Ford to build new facility in Dandridge - Knoxville News Sentinel

Groundbreaking is set for Friday on the new location of Rusty Wallace Ford off Interstate 40 in Dandridge, where it will be moving from its current Newport site in late spring, dealer principal Greg VonCannon said Tuesday. “We’re real excited about the opportunity to do this,” VonCannon said. The new $4 million facility will have nearly 20,000 square feet of floor space, and will sit on a nearly 5 acre parcel bordering Interstate 40 at Exit 417, at 134 Sharon Drive, VonCannon said. It’s just 15 miles from the current store, which is off Exit 432. Rusty Wallace Ford now has about 25 employees, but will “go to 30 to 35 pretty quickly, and 50-plus at some point in the future,” he said. The old store and property will eventually be put up for sale, VonCannon said. Other Rusty Wallace dealerships in the Knoxville area include Toyota, Cadillac, GMC and Kia stores in Morristown. and the recently acquired former Fox Chevrolet store in Clinton, VonCannon said. “Our plans are to open two to three more dealerships in the Knoxville area over the next couple of years, with Hyundai probably next,” he said. People still visit the spot where Mendota Heights police officer Scott Patrick was murdered one year ago during a traffic stop. Some leave flowers, candles, toys and other things at a curbside memorial to remember and pay tribute to Patrick, a well-known officer who took pride in his community-based policing during his 19 years on the city's police force. "People go over there and sit," said Joey McCollum, one of the owners of Doddway Auto Body and Service Center, which is across the street from the Dodd Road memorial just south of Smith Avenue in West St. Paul. Patrick's widow, Michelle, said it can be difficult for her to drive past the site of her husband's murder. The memorial does help ease her grief, she said, because it is a visible reminder of the community's ongoing support for Patrick, her high school sweetheart and husband of 26 years. That community support for the Patrick family and the city's police department will be on full display at public events held Thursday to mark the first anniversary of the murder. There will be a candlelight vigil at night and a daytime ceremony designating Dodd Road in Mendota Heights and West St. Paul as "Officer Scott Patrick Memorial Highway. 28 July 2015 The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has levied a $105 million fine against Fiat Chrysler for delaying the recalls of millions of unsafe vehicles. In addition, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has been ordered to repurchase more than one-half million Dodge Ram pickup trucks built between 2008 and 2012 because defective steering parts can lead to loss of driver control. The consumer group Center for Auto Safety (CAS) pointed out that the settlement did not require Fiat Chrysler to buy back Jeep vehicles with defective rear-mounted fuel tanks prone to explosion and fire in a rear-end collision. NHTSA found 75 deaths related to the defect while in its own study the CAS found 187 fire deaths in all Jeeps being investigated by the federal safety agency. As part of the consent agreement, Jeep owners will get a $1,000 coupon towards a new Jeep that costs $35-$40,000. Very few owners will be able to afford that price, meaning that most unsafe vehicles will stay on the road.
