Just the Facts: General Motors is recalling 26,582 2013 Buick LaCrosse and Cadillac SRX vehicles because a software problem may lead to a loss of engine braking, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. WASHINGTON — General Motors is recalling 26,582 2013 Buick LaCrosse and Cadillac SRX vehicles because a software problem may lead to a loss of engine braking, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. "A software problem may cause the transmission to inadvertently shift to Sport mode, removing any transmission-related engine braking effect," said NHTSA in its summary of the reason for the recall. The affected vehicles were manufactured from April 25, 2012 through March 6, 2013. GM told federal safety regulators that the problem was discovered on January 9 on a 2014 Cadillac SRX engineering development vehicle. "These vehicles are equipped with the Driver Shift Control (DSC) feature, commonly called Manual Mode, that allows the driver to shift the automatic transmission similar to a manual transmission," said GM in documentation filed with NHTSA. "The transmission software in these vehicles may cause the transmission to shift from DSC (manual) mode to Sport mode (automatic shifting) unexpectedly. Source: www.edmunds.com
