"She said 'There’s nothing we can do about it, it’s under warranty, and the warranty expired as of a month ago,'" she explained. “[A factory paint job should last] forever. As long as the car is on the road,” said Eric Simonian, owner of City of Stars Collision Center in Los Angeles. But an online search turned up dozens of complaints about paint job failures, submitted by owners of Nissans, Toyotas, Fords, as well as other makes and models. "The primary motivation of the manufacturer is to have the cheapest possible paint on the car that will last as long as it can," said Clarence Ditlow, director of the Center for Auto Safety, a nonprofit consumer advocacy group that tracks... In Meyer’s case, Nissan did just that: after the I-Team got involved, the carmaker offered her a new paint job, free of charge, as a "goodwill reimbursement. The officer contacted that second victim who confirmed that her 2010 Ford Fusion had been gone through, but nothing, including a GPS that was on the passenger seat, was stolen, the report said. At about 8 a. m. , an officer responded to another house on Covington Drive because that complainant said at some time during the night, his 2010 Toyota Camry had been broken into through the driver’s side rear window. The report said the driver’s side window of that vehicle had been broken, and $70, which had been in the wallet, was gone. The woman told the officer she saw the Conway man leaving the home of the Yukon’s owner and that he looked very nervous. The officer met with that Conway man at the Yukon owner’s home and he said he’d been at that house because he’d known the victim’s son for about a month and had nowhere else to go, the report said. The Conway man said when he left the Yukon owner’s house, he saw people going through his own vehicle, and that he was missing about $120 cash and a debit card that had been in his wallet in the center console, the report said.
