The 1985 Toyota pickup on these pages was built sans marque mixing. It’s all Toyota from end to end. Originally built by Daniel Cox, the Toy is owned and ’wheeled by his brother Michael. Smart selection of factory Toyota parts took this truck from competent to exceptional one step at a time. The 1985 Toyota pickup is a sought-after year for 4x4 Toyota because it’s the last year of the factory solid front axle and the first year the fuel-injected 22R-E was offered by the factory. Daniel knew this, but rather than reach for a 4. 3-liter Chevy V-6, he opted for a 7M-GTE Toyota turbo inline six. The factory turbocharged 7M-GTE engine originally powered a 1987 Toyota Supra and can be adapted to the Toyota pickup’s five-speed manual transmission using a factory Supra bellhousing, and the right mix of factory clutch components. Aft of the five-speed, you’ll find a doubled-up Toyota transfer case. Daniel integrated the dual cases into his original build, and Michael installed the finishing touch, a 4. 7:1 low-range gearset in the rear T-case. How many people would plunk down good money on a 30-year-old car located more than a thousand miles away sight-unseen. That's what 43-year-old Mike Tran of Houston did about three years ago when he bought his 1985 Toyota Celica GT-S Convertible from a man in Virginia. Tran had fallen in love with the 1985 Celica GT-S Convertible - a rare model - two decades earlier. After years of shopping for the rare car, Tran found and passed on several 1985 Celica GT-S convertibles that were in rough shape. But then, while surfing the Internet, Tran came across this particular 1985 Celica GT-S Convertible for sale in Virginia and emailed the seller to ask about the car. Tran, a quality control manager, explains he had wanted such a car since the 1990s. "I fell in love with this car a long time ago," he said. The 1985 Celica is in very good condition, Tran said. Remarkably, even the soft top is original to the car and still operates well, Tran said. With 118,000 miles on the odometer, the car also still has its original 2. 4-liter four-cylinder engine, Tran said. Asked how it runs, Tran's answer was quick: "Very reliable," he said. So reliable, in fact, Tran uses the 30-year-old Celica as a daily driver on his 10-mile route to work. Source: www.chron.com

Macon-Bibb firefighter hurt when pickup truck wrecks - Macon Telegraph (blog)

A Macon-Bibb County firefighter was injured and in critical condition at a local hospital Monday after the pickup he was driving crashed on Eisenhower Parkway. Bibb sheriff’s deputies said Ronald Kyle Livingston was driving east on Eisenhower Parkway, just past the Log Cabin Drive intersection, when his 1985 Toyota truck ran off the road, then returned and rolled over.
