Low Mileage 1969 Mustang Shelby GT500 Going to Auction - MotorTrend Magazine

With its last registration sticker expiring in 1973, the Mustang Shelby GT500 was garage-kept for decades and found covered by layers of dust with its fiberglass hood up and trunk lid open with the trunk mat and insulation removed. The car reported has never seen rain – or a car wash – because the owner feared that the body may rust. Despite being stored for decades, the owner would restart the Mustang Shelby GT500 periodically and even started after given fresh fuel and a new battery, the auction house reports. Said to be original, the Mustang Shelby GT500 features Black Jade paint over a black interior and 428 cubic-inch Cobra Jet V-8 engine mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Included with the car are the original smog system, shifter assembly, snorkel, S-tube, Shelby window sticker, bill of sale, build sheet, owner’s manual, warranty card, title, and registration documentation. The Shelby was known to have had 2 minor wrecks in it's prior life. ( Freds 55 ) All of Larry's cars were dirty and had a inch of dust because Larry didn't clean them. The car had not been run for about 6 years prior to the sale. The car was not pampered in it's early life. He did not want his cars sold at a local sale but got sick too quickly to have made a will. CENTRE HALL, CENTRE COUNTY - One Centre County town is generating a lot of buzz, all thanks to a car. The 1969 Shelby Mustang GT-500 is an original survivor, even down to the 1973 inspection sticker. "It looks like new and it's beautiful," Ronald Gilligan, of Ronald Gilligan Auctioneering, said. In fact, Gilligan said this car has gotten so much attention, his website crashed from the sheer number of page views. With just over 8,500 miles, Gilligan said it's likely one of the lowest-milaged survivor models of its kind that's out there and it's for sale. "This car has been folklore in Centre Hall for 40 years," he said. "I think, comfortably, the car would be in the $100,000 to $200,000 range," he said. "This could be the highest priced 1969 GT-500 to ever get sold. Its original owner, Larry Brown, bought this car new in 1969 for $5,000. "It's very exciting," Gilligan said. "I'm just as excited to see how the Ford Ranchero sells the 1974 van that only has 500 miles. A 1969 Shelby Mustang that has been stored in a garage for 40 years will be sold at an estate auction. One of about a thousand made, this Shelby Mustang GT500 has just 8,531 miles on the clock, and it is said to never have been driven in the rain or even washed by its owner for fear of damaging the paint. That would make it not only one of the most original Shelby Mustangs in existence but also one of the lowest mileage examples known. , who passed away with no living heirs on his birthday in 2013.
