My Tank: Driving the Sherman M-4A3 - Car and Driver (blog)

Many historians consider him to be the greatest of the Civil War generals and quite deserving of the honor of having an important army tank carry his name. Once, as C/D's technical editor, I had a ride in a brand-new Chrysler-built M-1 turbine tank. But until recently, the M-4 General Sherman medium tank and I had never crossed paths. On a recent visit to Las Vegas, while touring the restoration shops of the Imperial Palace Hotel's auto collection (C/D, January 1985) with administrator Richie Clyne, Yates came upon the retired war horse on these pages. He negotiated a quick ride in it as a pleasant diversion from the crap tables, and he enjoyed the experience so much that he briefly considered calling the local army recruiter for an appointment. Better sense prevailed, and Brock instead called our Ann Arbor offices to make this golden opportunity known to the C/D editorial staff. Clyne has enjoyed a few joy rides himself—including one foray during which he inadvertently stood this 31-ton behemoth on its nose—so he wasn't at all surprised by my telephone call requesting a turn in the driver's seat. Cars, trucks, bikes and more rolling in for Everything on Wheels expo - Fayetteville Observer

Inside and outside the Crown Expo Center on Saturday, a free "Everything on Wheels" event will feature displays of cars, trucks, recreational vehicles and ATVs. Elsewhere, a number of car shows and cruise-ins will feature classic and current vehicles suitable for gawking and discussing. The inaugural event, presented by Camping World and produced by The Fayetteville Observer, is geared toward anyone who gets a kick out of wheeled vehicles, motorized and otherwise. A free car cruise-in is one of the centerpiece events. Some of the most anticipated 2016 cars and trucks will be on display, along with bikes and more. Car show judging is scheduled for 6:15 p. m. There will be plenty of entertainment to go along with the car-watching. About eight food trucks, including R Burger, Not Jes Subs and Rockabella's Bakery, will be on hand to satisfy appetites. Also featured will be a roller derby scrimmage by the Rogue Roller Girls and a "pin-up" competition. They include Express Tires and Rims, Hendrick Chrysler Jeep Fiat, L&L Performance LLC and Snap-on Tools. Also known as the Dispatcher Jeep, it was a two-wheel-drive variant of the CJ series. Production started in 1955 by Willys, which later turned into Kaiser Keep in 1963. Seven years later, American Motors bought it and created AM General, a wholly owned subsidiary, that built this model through 1983. The beautiful tea-ladies claim... On the other hand, we know that the postal Jeeps were introduced sometime later, in 1971. Whatever the case may be, we are dealing with a funny classic, and it’s all that matters at this point. We don’t want tea to be fussy - it is as simple as grabbing a cup of joe in the morning.
