Never mind last year’s record sales , the success of the latest Grand Cherokee or the anticipation building ahead of the spring launch of a small Jeep. What fans of the U. S. maker of the quintessential four-by-four want to know is if–and when–it will come out with a pick-up truck. “Every week I get emails on that from Jeep fans in the (United) States,” Mike Manley, chief executive of the brand of Chrysler Group LLC, said in an interview at the Detroit motor show. Manley said Jeep had some concepts for a pick-up truck based on the Wrangler, but it had no plans to develop one at the moment. “The Jeep pick-up could sell everywhere,” he added, referring to its versatility as opposed to other models in the line-up that have appeal only in some markets. Manley has to think global because Jeep has been identified by Sergio Marchionne , head of Chrysler’s parent, Fiat SpA, as one of the brands within the group’s line-up with the potential to sell its vehicles in nearly every market in the world. There’ve been at least four pick-ups in Jeep’s history. The first one came out in 1947. Then there was the Gladiator, which came out of the factory at the same time as the Wagoneer in 1963. More than two decades later, Jeep brought out the Comanche. I've been waiting for a truck from jeep for almost 10 years now. Source: blogs.wsj.com
